The Latest
I am sitting here in the Houston airport watching CNN recap the madness of the day in Israel/Palestine.The stats speak loudly: over 50 Palestinians and 8 Israelis killed in the last 2 weeks all because one Israeli soldier was kidnapped by terrorists. But the stats don’t speak as loudly as the pain in my heart. I haven’t posted much in the past few weeks because I’ve felt hopeless and distraught about what my people are doing and what is being done to them by Israel. Along with the current events, I’ve been getting deeper into The Lemon Tree. I am not done with the book yet, but so far I would put it at the top of my list of books on the subject. I had to hold back tears while reading it on the plane as I wished the reality the book described was actually fantasy. I wished it didn’t happen.I wished the wars in 1948 and 1967 ended differently. I wished the evicted families had been left alone. But I am reminded with each glance at the news that evil is ruling over my people.
Sadly, the analysts on CNN think the most important question is, “What will this do to our gas prices?” Are you freaking kidding me? Palestinians in Gaza can’t get food, electricity, and clean water and these clowns are worried about the potential rise in gas prices?
I am disgusted all around and mostly hopeless. Thankfully Abner reminded me that things are indeed hopeless and screwed up and that’s why we rely on Jesus, not on our politicians and military leaders. The reminder is helpful, but not a total cure. I’ve been praying, but most of my prayers have been asking God what the heck is going on and to please do something to stop it all. We’ll see what he does.
